Gwenny asked me yesterday if there are super heroes in real life. No, but there are good things that real people can do every day. So yesterday, after months of preparation and patient waiting on Gwenny's part, (oh, and three rescheduled hair appointments) Gwenny and I donated our hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. For this program you only have to have 8 inches of donatable hair, so we didn't have to wait quite as long as we would with some other programs.
Gwenny was resistant for quite a while, but as she saw me growing my hair longer and longer for donation she gradually came around. By the time our originally scheduled hair appointment came around she could hardly wait! Oh the disappointment when I measured my hair and it wasn't long enough. Repeat for the second scheduled hair appointment.
Then yesterday came and lo and behold Mommy's hair was long enough! We went to the beauty salon together and took turns getting our pony tails cut off.
Last time we went, over a year ago, Gwenny was too scared to get her hair washed in the sink. This time she said that was her favorite part. Gwenny says we got the same haircut, but my hair dresser Jennifer is awesome and gave us each a good cut for our face shapes.
Gwenny loves her new haircut and is very proud of herself. We stopped on the way home to mail off our donations. It was such a great experience and so much fun to do it together. And what a great Mommy moment for me to get to see my daughter do something selfless and generous - those moments can be rare in a 5 year old's life. So now Gwenny not only looks older with her haircut, but seems older for having done such a grownup thing. Sniff sniff - kinergarten here we come!
We’re still here!
